A note from the author:
When we were kids we would visit Yiruk Wamoon (Wilson's Promontory National Park) for camping holidays. This place was full of magic. One of the most magical of creatures were the wombats. We soon learnt how clever and fearless they were at getting into our camp food overnight. One time we didn't lock the esky and one brave wombat came charging through the campervan annex and had a nice feast! Aside from a good story, these human influences are not good for the wombat diet.
Willa is a particularly magical wombat. They don't fit neatly into ideas of boy and girl wombats. Their passion for digging allows freedom from narrow ideas of how they should be.
