This is a tale about birth and death, about the search for truth and the theft of precious art and history.
Freeman is an elderly gentleman on a search to find the motives behind a single great moment in Australian history, the sacking of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam. His search takes him to the Heritage Reading Room of the State Library of Victoria, where he meets four like-minded souls carrying out their own personal searches; isn't life the search for meaning?
But Freeman is soon wrapped up in a mystery...perhaps even a crime. One of the other scholars is troubled but secretive, and goes about her work burdened by the weight of the commission she had been pressured into taking. Is it forgery, or complicity? Unbeknownst to her, she has allies who refuse to let her face her future alone. It's a mystery, and like most mysteries, resolves itself organically.
